The night is “Dark ‘N’ Stormy”.
Flashes of lightning illuminate silhouettes of ships hovering just off “Rum Row”, Nervous crews pace the decks, waiting to off-load that illegal cargo concealed in their depths of their hulls.
“Rum Row”, created by the infamous Bill “The Real” McCoy, is a line of floating liquor stores (running the length of the Eastern Seaboard) that sits just beyond the reach of the law.
Oh, it’s such a dangerous and exciting time!! The “Prohibition Era” is in full swing. Yet, thirsty demands for this intoxicating brew must be satisfied!!
So… under the cover of darkness, come the “Rum Runners”, the notorious smugglers and bootleggers of the high seas. Their smaller, faster boats can traverse the narrow shallow inlets of the Keys, shoot an eddy, or run a beach, transfer their cargo to waiting land vehicles and be out in a flash, leaving the larger Coast Guard ships in their wake.
Let’s concoct our own "Dark ‘N’ Stormy" night here at the Kitchen Table.
Grilled Shrimp on Tropical Slaw (tossed with a "Jerk" Dressing) paired with our own "Rum Runner" cocktail.
"Drunken" Steak (wonder what's in the marinade?) served with "Wilted" Greans (it's pretty humid along "Rum Row"!) and Sweet Potato "Risotto" paired with a very "Dark N Stormy" cocktail.
"Flaming" Citrus Rum Sauce served over Grilled Pineapple and Ice Cream.
Come, join us as we “Run a little Rum” of our own.
